Intoduction

Laura Geller is a fast-growing direct-to-consumer cosmetics brand based in the USA. Laura Geller approached projectBI in mid 2024 with the goal of implemening automated business reports to replace manually-maintained excel reports.

Since then the projectBI team has worked with Laura Geller to build a number of custom business reports, and provide ongoing analytics services.

The Challenge

As Laura Geller scaled its DTC business it became increasingly more difficult to conduct indept customer cohort and lifecycle analyses and reporting.

The business managed to build excel-based reports that could provide insight into these areas of the business, but it was challenging to maintain and scale these reports.

Laura Geller needed to automate these reports to free up man-hours to focus more time on learning from the data.

The Solution

To solve this challenge for Laura Geller, the projectBI team implemented a full BI tech stack, coded over 400 custom SQL-based data models, and developed a number of advanced Tableau dashboards.

The BI tech stack was made up of Fivetran (ETL), BigQuery (data warehouse), dbt (data modeling), Github (code repository), Tableau (data visualization) and Project Echo (tests).

14 different data sources were connected to Fivetran and their data was extracted into the data warehouse. Over 400 SQL-based models were coded in dbt to make it easy for the Laura Geller data team to leverage their data, as well as supporting the Tableau dashboards.

By the end of the project, Laura Geller had replaced their excel reports with fully automated cloud-based Tableau reports.
